A Moment That Slips - Obama's Speech on Race

Barack Obama - An Imperfect Union

I posted this on a forum I like and thought it was good enough to post here.

I thought it was extremely courageous of him. He could have saved himself the problem and thrown his mentor under the bus, disowned him, and left the church in disgust. That would have silenced the critics. But it wouldn't have addressed the underlying problem of race and race baiting.

Instead, he chose to address it head on. He was not afraid to say that blacks are responsible too. That black fathers need to stick around. And that the old generation needs to give way to the new so that we can all move on with this discussion instead of confining it to the shadows.

He laid blame where blame was due, and everyones feet. He laid the responsibility for future dialog at the feet of us all. And lastly, he showed true character, by standing by a friend he knew was wrong. His own actions and words of over 20 years show he is not like that himself. Indeed, his former retired pastor has only three such controversial sayings in his sermons for the last 30 years, and thats with people pouring through them right now. Three mistakes, three bigotted statements, and the media and the public are willing to lay the most recent one, the one he wasn't there for, at Obama's feet. Thats neither fair nor just. Obama made sure people understood that he wasn't backing down, he still cared about his friend despite the fact that he condemned those words that are so controversial. But he also showed us that the man so many despise now, has done much more good than bad.

Prison ministries, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving shelter to the homeless, rebuilding houses, helping the sick. These are things that this pastor STARTED in his community and things Obama was very hands on in helping. Do we now lay those things at Obama's feet, as something beneficial to him? If his mentors words are his bane, should not his good deeds, which far out weigh his bad, be his salvation?

Obama has shown nothing but the opposite of hate and bigotry these last 20 years. I am not willing to discard him because of the words of someone else, no matter how close. I am not willing to discard the man who has experienced racism against whites AND blacks from FAMILY members like his grand mother. I'm not about to discard the man who understands what its like to live in the poorest of conditions AND attend the most expensive schools. I'm not about to discard the man who understands the Muslims, the Catholic, and the Protestant because he has lived among all three.

He eats with those who are less than reputable. He associates with anyone, even if they are considered bad news. Isn't this the man we have been looking for in a president? He is the great uniter of this country, if only we don't allow ourselves to be blinded by ignorance.

A Blueprint For Change

How do you defeat change? How can you stifle hope? Thats an easy question. Just look at what has been done to Barack Obama. He has been accused of being a radical racist christian, a radical islamic terrorist, a socialist, a fascist, and much worse by others I'm sure. But none of it turns out to be more than rumor and conspiracy theory by people afraid of what Obama will mean for america.

Obama will me the turning of a page. It will mean the end of race as a barrier if a black man can be president. It will mean a new beginning for how this country is viewed by the world if we can elect a man of color. It will mean a turning of heads to have a person as eloquent as Barack Obama speaking to our enemies, someone who understands the power of words in a world that desperately needs diplomacy.

Barack Obama has outline his plans for America. I have read them. They are inspiring, they are amazing, and they fill me with hope for a better tomorrow for my children. For everything that he is, for everything that he could be, he has my undying devotion and support. Is he everything I hope for? Probably not. But he gives hope during a time when hope is desperately lacking. He is what this country needs.

Barack Obama is A Change We Can Believe In!

A Presidential Hopeful Falters

I just read an article on MSNBC.com that talks about Hillary Clintons spending on the campaign. It goes into great detail on how she miss managed money and spent money where it should have been saved. How she was able to raise only 1$ to every $2.50 that Barack Obama raised. Its a sad state of affairs for her and her group. She, after all, behaved and spent money like she was the presumed from runner. But she wasn't.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, built up his donation pool from regular people like you and me. Asking us to sacrifice just a little for change. And when it came down to it, thats what worked. Obama has out spent and out fund raised Clinton for a few months now. Why? Because he won. He won with a message of hope and change that no other candidate can bring. He won because he believed that a people who want change bad enough are willing to sacrifice for it. He required his supporters to do more than cheer at rallys and cheer at the Tv. He required them to prove their support and their dedication to change.

And they responded in a big way. Obama just flat out has more people supporting him than anyone else. Five dollars here, five dollars there, and next thing you know, you are breaking fund raising records. But thats what makes him great. Thats why he will win this election. After 9/11, Bush told us to ignore that anything had happened. To trust the government. To shut up, be afraid, and trust the government to protect you. Spend as usual he said. But Obama realized that people want to be a part of this country. They want to jump in feet first and feel the burn and the exciting meant of changing the country. That is what he gave them. He gave them a role in the change. He told them that they would need to scrape and sacrifice for change. And the people responded. While others try to distance themselves from the voters, while others try and give away a free ride. Obama is giving a call to arms. A call to give those few pennies you have. To give of yourself. And only then can change come.

I am ready for change. And during the major election, I will give him some of my hard earned money. Why? Because I want change so bad I can taste it. And I want it so bad I want to be a part of it. So I will give of my self, my money, my time, to help bring that change.

Cantankerous Ignorance

I simply can't stand people in this country any more. People are nothing more than sheep that believe what they are told. They, as a whole, are completely uninformed and yet still feel okay with spouting their mouths off! Not only that, they make accusations that are completely baseless and ignorant. I have never been called a socialist more times in one day as I was today on a local forum I post on! Not only is it ridiculous, they don't know what socialism is! They accuse me of being a socialist and being against America because I am against our government! The fact that I am completely against big government totally escapes them!

You can't simply make accusations without knowing what your talking about. None the less, certain people continue to post their ignorance based on sites like "World Net Daily" and "Free Republic" despite the fact that their news worthiness has been exposed as a biased fraud. They even go so far as to call Snopes.com a lift wing biased site! Really? IDIOTS!

What is someone to do when you dismantle someone elses argument and they still won't give it up? Its ignorance at its pinnacle in a world at the height of its technology and science discovery. How can this be? Its very sad that our society now resorts to superstition and bullshit once again. That the very people who are being sheep are accusing those who are speaking out independently of being sheep. Independents and those opposed to were our government is taking us need to stand up this next election and take our power back from the ignorant sheeple of this country!

Mitt Romney - Coulda Shoulda Woulda

Mitt Romney, the politically savvy governor from Massachusetts has finally dropped out of the race for president. The governor who once endorsed abortion, gay marriage, and getting out of Iraq is finally gone. After all, as president, he was a different person. He is against abortion, gay marriage, or leaving Iraq. He completely changed to run for president.

Its a shame that we have politicians actually getting ANY support when they so obviously pander to special interests. Romney represents everything bad about our political system. He was willing to sacrifice every core political view he had to be president. No view or issue was important enough to make a stand on. He wanted the nomination so he set his values in line with who he thought was his core audience. Instead of being strong, he was a weak coward of a politician, and to think, he could have been president!

So who is left? Just six total still in the race, and less than a hand full of actual contenders. For the republicans, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, and Ron Paul remain. John McCain is fairly far from a conservative, but he puts up a nice challenge to the democrats on major issues. Mike Huckabee is a baptist preacher who believes we should change our constitution to match gods law. No person that isn't a dominionist theocrat would vote for him. Thats why its alarming that he actually has delegates in his pocket. Ron Paul is the small government candidate but doesn't stand a chance in hell of getting the nomination, he is to libertarian.

For the democrats, there is Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Mike Gravel. Barack Obama is the candidate for change. He would be the first black president in our history. To do so he must over come the republican slime machine which has thrown everything from "He is a radical muslim" to "He is a nation of islam racist" into the mix. Its very entertaining but it may over come his bid if he isn't careful. Hillary Clinton wants to be the first female president, but can she out run her past with the baggage she carries? Mike Gravel, while sound in his views on government, isn't a factor and has no delegates.

So its come down to this. The republicans cannot find a way to beat the democrats with a true conservative because the country is fed up with them. They bring up Bill Clintons past to try and derail Hillary. They result to outright lies about Barack Obama. The slime machine is in full force to derail this countries revolution. If republicans ever wise up to the reality of this, the party will be finished. It almost is. Which would be a shame. Conservatism and liberalism hate each other, but they hold the country in balance, constantly tugging at each other. Once there is no more conservative voice, we will pull to the extreme of liberalism, socialism. We almost pulled to the extreme of conservatism under Bush, fascism. Its a dangerous and exciting time in this country. Make sure you all participate, as is your right.
