Fundamentalist Heroes: Ann Coulter

Ann Coulter is one of fundamentalism greatest heroes. She spouts any number of ludicrous claims and insulting comments about liberals and democrats via any medium she can find. Whats worse, she has no problem personally attacking and destroying the personal lives of politicians she hates. Truly, what other person would attack John Edwards for talking about his dead son? Or attack him for talking about his wifes awesome recovery from cancer? Only a real bitch would do something like that. She speaks of having great intelligence, being fearless, being truthful, but actually is a mindless shrew. I thought about what I would say to her if I ever met here, all the arguments I would put forth. But I agree with Jefferson, some times ridicule is the only way to get to these people. She won't be convinced that what she says is rude and wrong, or that she EXEMPLIFIES what fundamentalism is about, beating down others opinions and beliefs, insulting those you can't find dirt on, and lower yourself to the lowest possible place to spark the most reaction.

Ann Coulter is a bitch. She is a hate monger, unintelligent wretch who presents no value to society as a whole and turns the face of sheer, unadulterated ignorance and stupidity towards science. She is the type of person who reads one side of the argument, the side she approves of, and never reads the other side. Then she talks about how the other side of the argument is stupid when she never even knows the details of that argument to begin with. I would rather listen to a child speak on the meaning of life than listen to a single word that comes out of her mouth. When I hear one quote from her, I feel dumber and my IQ noticeably goes down. She dumbs down the population and destroys the roots of intellectual dialogue. Here are a few quotes that show why.

By 1973, John Kerry had already accused American soldiers of committing war crimes in Vietnam, thrown someone else's medals to the ground in an anti-war demonstration, and married his first heiress.
Ann Coulter

Democrats always assure us that deterrence will work, but when the time comes to deter, they're against it.
Ann Coulter

Democrats couldn't care less if people in Indiana hate them. But if Europeans curl their lips, liberals can't look at themselves in the mirror.
Ann Coulter

I know Jesus Christ died for my sins, and that's all I really need to know.
Ann Coulter

I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am.
Ann Coulter

I'm not going to be lectured to.
Ann Coulter

I've decided to cut out the part of the speech where I say anything nice about Democrats.
Ann Coulter

If John Kerry had a dollar for every time he bragged about serving in Vietnam - oh wait, he does.
Ann Coulter

If we're so cruel to minorities, why do they keep coming here? Why aren't they sneaking across the Mexican border to make their way to the Taliban?
Ann Coulter

Liberal soccer moms are precisely as likely to receive anthrax in the mail as to develop a capacity for linear thinking.
Ann Coulter

Liberals are stalwart defenders of civil liberties - provided we're only talking about criminals.
Ann Coulter

Liberals become indignant when you question their patriotism, but simultaneously work overtime to give terrorists a cushion for the next attack and laugh at dumb Americans who love their country and hate the enemy.
Ann Coulter

My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building.
Ann Coulter

Taxes are like abortion, and not just because both are grotesque procedures supported by Democrats. You're for them or against them. Taxes go up or down; government raises taxes or lowers them. But Democrats will not let the words "abortion" or "tax hikes" pass their lips.
Ann Coulter

The Democrats have no actual policy proposals of their own unless constant carping counts as a policy.
Ann Coulter

The New York Times editorial page is like a Ouija board that has only three answers, no matter what the question. The answers are: higher taxes, more restrictions on political speech and stricter gun control.
Ann Coulter

The really amazing part, to me, was when Florida made it into the Final Four, the Democrats didn't demand a recount.
Ann Coulter

They've hit us and we've got to hit back hard, and I'm not just talking about the terrorists.
Ann Coulter

Usually the nonsense liberals spout is kind of cute, but in wartime their instinctive idiocy is life-threatening.
Ann Coulter

We don't want someone who will get 98 percent of the vote. We want someone who will get 51 percent of the vote.
Ann Coulter

We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war.
Ann Coulter

We've finally given liberals a war against fundamentalism, and they don't want to fight it. They would, except it would put them on the same side as the United States.
Ann Coulter

When we were at peace, Democrats wanted to raise taxes. Now there's a war, so Democrats want to raise taxes. When there was a surplus, Democrats wanted to raise taxes. Now that there is a mild recession, Democrats want to raise taxes.
Ann Coulter

Whenever a liberal begins a statement with 'I don't know which is more frightening,' you know the answer is going to be pretty clear.
Ann Coulter

Whether they are defending the Soviet Union or bleating for Saddam Hussein, liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots, and on the matter of America's self-preservation, the difference is irrelevant.
Ann Coulter

While the form of treachery varies slightly from case to case, liberals always manage to take the position that most undermines American security.

The Office of Faith Based Initiatives

Welcome to the new American Theocracy, where all your faith based needs can be serviced by the government. No, truly, all Americans, even fundamentalists should be bother and even outraged by this. The first amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." The 2001 creation of The Office of Faith Based Initiatives by President Bush makes this law nothing more than a "good idea". The Office of Faith Based Initiatives (yes, thats really its name) exists solely for the purpose of promoting and assisting faith based organizations. In fact, one of its biggest benefactors is a ranch in South Dakota whose existence is for the purpose of leading children to the Lord. It is almost wholly funded by the government and does not allow unbelievers on the property.

I understand that fundamentalists Christians in general are good to go on throwing out the constitution they so rabidly claim to uphold. But this is an out and out violation of the first amendment, word for word violation at that. But, think about it, is this really what you want America? Christian or not, it should make you shudder to know that the government is now promoting, endorsing, and funding the Presidents personal religious views. But what happens if its not the same faith of the next president? What happens if its a Mormon president, or Catholic president, or even an Islamic president? I think you can see where this is going. Its tyranny that can be welded by any person who sits in the office of President of the United States.

Its shameful that the news didn't carry this story. Its even more shameful that no one has spoken out against it. Whats worse is that Christians around the country seem to be fine with it. Just what exactly are you hoping to accomplish in a theocracy? Its already been proven to not work! There have been protestant and catholic theocracies, and now you want an evangelical theocracy? Well, the crusades, inquisition, and modern Islam show us what happens when fundamentalists are in charge. Shame on us all for allowing this to happen.

But the lack of outrage shows us whats truly wrong with this country. Religious moderates have let the fundamentalists take over. Fundamentalists cloud reality and cloud the minds of children with nonsense. They make believe that there is some kind of "debate" in the scientific community over evolution. There isn't, period. But they still push creationism on people over and over, and teach their kids nonsense that has been debunked and proven wrong and impossible over and over and over. They parrot the same arguments like they are scripture, completely oblivious to the fact that these arguments were factually debunked years ago! That type of belief in the face of obvious fact does not show courageous faith, it shows blind stupidity in the fact of evidence! Blind ridiculous, unyeilding faith in the face of tested evidence and proof show a lack of understanding of science not found in the rest of the world. That is why the world looks at us like we are all brawn and no brains. As our test scores in math and science continue to dip further, and the rest of the world finds the medical cures and scientific advances, we shouldn't wonder why the rest of the world hates us. We don't "get" other cultures, we snub scientific fact, and we scoff at the world like they are the dummies. We aren't the greatest country on earth, but we are quickly becoming the dumbest.

The Center For Inquiry

Today I decided to go to an event listed on the Indiana Brights Meetup group's calendar. Its a Sunday morning coffee and conversation at the Indiana Center for Inquiry. It was fun to finally meet some other people who think like I do. For the first time, I felt that I was not in combat mode when talking about thinks like religion and politics. These people, when they don't agree with you, still allow you your time to speak. I didn't ever feel like I was arguing a point.

But for the first time, I realized that when I am around others that aren't freethinkers, skeptics, or atheists, I have constantly had to worry about what I say about religion. I told them about my Flying Spaghetti Monster shirt, about the fork on a cross, and instead of blank stares or comments about how bad that was, I got laughs, because its funny. And they knew who I was talking about when I said the name Richard Dawkins, and Sam Harris. These were people who enjoyed being who they were, and lived without guilt. These were my people.

For the first time I don't feel like I'm trying to fit in, I feel like I am accepted for what I am, a freethinker who doesn't simply accept what he is told, someone who requires evidence. For that reason alone, I will likely drive the hour drive to get to the Center For Inquiry on a Sunday morning just to shoot the breeze with people I barely know yet. I plan to change that and even become a member of the Center because I really want to support this place. Whats better, I took all three kids with me and they weren't in the least bit critical or try to step in and assist where it wouldn't be wanted. That is something I am not used to.

If there happen to be any people who support their local Center for Inquiry, you should know that just being who you are has gained another supporter. Thank you for helping me find a place where I am accepted in a new town.

Bill O'Reilly: Culture Idiot

Earlier in May, we were treated to the eminent biologist Richard Dawkins on The O’Reilly Factor. The show is well known for Bill O’Reilly and the sharp and arrogant way he discards his guests. Its rare that he have a guest that he won’t bully around. But he invited Dawkins to the show, knowing that Dawkins has indeed fought many a battle and argued against many a theist. The segment was short but to the point. In the end, O’Reilly simply said something about atheists having no morals and ended the segment quickly. I expected as much, seeing as Richard Dawkins had an answer for everything, even though he was cut short repeatedly.

But later that month, The O’Reilly Factor brought on Christian and actor Kirk Cameron. Cameron has done little with his career since becoming a Christian but managed to get a starring role on the “Left Behind” movies. These two movies are of course based on the award winning “Left Behind” book series about the apocalyptic end of days as read in the book of Revelations. For those of you who don’t know your Bible, it’s the last book in the New Testament, but it was written first among the other New Testament books. Revelation is some what of a mystery seeing as it reads like it was written by a man on LSD in a haunted house.

Cameron likes to speak like he knows allot but leaves quit a bit lacking intellectually. That’s okay, so he doesn’t know his faith very well and likes to read off old religious sayings and clichés, that’s fine, most Christians try that with me and fail because I actually know the history of Christianity and the Bible. But with O’Reilly and Cameron congratulating themselves for being so religious, I had to suppress the gag reflex. O’Reilly even had the nerve to say “I think I beat Richard Dawkins in our debate”. Well that’s utter nonsense, but I would expect that from such an arrogant prick like him. He went on to say something about Buddha creating earth or what have you, but in the end, neither of them knows diddly squat about the Christian faith.

Most Christians know very little actual history about their faith or who it came to be. They believe the Bible is all they need and they go about their merry way believing that all the books of the Bible were magically put together by god soon after Jesus rose to heaven. There is not problem with those who keep their faith were it belongs, in them. But when they decide to “tell the world” about it, then it becomes tiresome. Kirk Cameron and Bill O’Reilly simply spread ignorance and promote blind ignorant faith by their type of conversation. Even a well schooled Christian would have been embarrassed by them. Because of his indulgence of fundamentalist Christian Kirk Cameron, he loudly endorsed the millions of uneducated fundamentalist Christians sitting at home watching fox and chuckling to themselves about how immoral and doomed atheists are. Thus increasing the forever growing arrogance of the Christian population.

But worst of all, they promoted the idea that all the myths and legend Christians believe about their faith are true. He influences millions and millions of conservative evangelical fundamentalists every night on his show. He is a journalist and should be held to those standards. As a journalist, he let us down, and failed to speak nothing but the facts. Instead he has allowed his show to become a platform for his own personal pompous and arrogant speak which he cannot or will not ever see anything wrong with it. And why should he? After all, he styles himself a culture warrior. All the while, he spins and doctors his show towards the far right, constantly telling them that he stands for no spin and that he is the only non-biased TV show on the only non-biased news station. Well, when half yours stories start by talking about Democrats when all the main stories are about Republican corruption in a government headed by the most unpopular president in our life time, you lose that ability to be the “no spin” guy on TV.

Bill O’Reilly makes his money by catering mindless; spin laden, party bias drivel to millions of conservative viewers. He adds to the general surplus of ignorance every time he is on the air. The sad part is, he thinks he is doing the world a favor. As always, it will be to late when the world realizes that a pompous arrogant prick like O’Reilly, no matter what he stands for, is never good for the people.
